Music Radar's website posted the 10 greatest punk albums of all time according to Frank Iero.
"My father and grandfather are both drummers, so music was a big part of my childhood," says My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero. "On the weekends, I used to go to clubs to see my grandfather play Dixieland and standards, and then I'd go somewhere else to watch my dad play the blues. A lot of times these were after-hours places where I shouldn't even be. The owners kind of looked the other way."

What’s the biggest difference between My Chemical Romance on Black Parade and the band on Danger Days?
I think we’re the most fearless that we’ve ever been. I also think it’s the album that’s most true to us. On previous albums we only showed maybe one or two sides of the band. I mean each album is dramatically different, but I think we looked a specific way and people had an idea what we sounded like. I think now more than ever we’re like a completely new My Chemical Romance and it’s kind of a My Chemical Romance that’s been there all along. We really feel super liberated and it feels like nothing’s holding us back.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE is a cartoony kind of band, and that suits the frontman, Gerard Way. Since the group — including the guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero and Mr. Way’s younger brother, the bassist Mikey Way — formed in 2001, it has developed a glam-emo aesthetic that seems sprung from a dark and glossy comic book. Its new album, “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” (Reprise), is full of anthemic tracks that imagine a postapocalyptic future. Gerard Way, 33, created “Umbrella Academy,” a comic book published by Dark Horse about a family of atypical superheroes. Melena Ryzik spoke by phone with Mr. Way at a tour stop in Detroit about discovering his favorite album of the year, “Treats,” by the Brooklyn band Sleigh Bells, and how he was influenced by Brit pop growing up in New Jersey. “At the time, everything in America was so macho,” he said. “The British stuff was the opposite of macho. I heard the Smiths, and that really changed everything for me.” This is an edited version of their conversation.
